About Makkah
Makkah is the holiest city in Islam, and the birthplace of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him).
Makkah lies approximately 73 kilometers - or 45 miles - inland from Jeddah, western Saudi Arabia’s port of entry on the Red Sea. With a population of approximately 1.7 million, Makkah is an ancient Bedouin gathering place at a crossroads for major caravan routes that has today become a diverse and vibrant city, with residents from many Islamic cultures. The city is closed to non-Muslims.
