Spring Festival (Chunjie)

This is an important festival in the Chinese calendar. It is celebrated between late January and mid-February. Marking the beginning of the Chinese Lunar New Year, this is a time when Beijing is at its most colorful. People decorate their shops and homes with messages of good fortune and paste protective images of gods at their doorways to scare away evil spirits. Firecrackers, drum banging and colorful costumes are prevalent throughout the course of the two-week festival.

Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival or Yuanxiao Jie, marks the end of the Spring Festival and falls on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar. The festival is all about Chinese red lanterns. Some have poems and verse on them, while some have pictures. It is customary during the Lantern Festival for people to enjoy various kinds of lanterns and lots of outdoor fun. Eating yuanxiao or sweet dumplings is another custom. They have many flavors such as sugar, walnuts, sesame, peanuts, beans, chocolate or fruit.

Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Jie)

The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival which is also called ‘duanyang’, ’double 5th’ or ‘duanwu’ ,is celebrated during the period of May and June. The origins of today's festival are more often connected to the great patriotic and literary figure Qu Yuan. On the day of the festival, people mark the anniversary of his death by eating zongzi, a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. Boat races are also a part of the festivities.

Tianjin Beer Festival

An absolute extravaganza of beer with brands from all over the world. The Tianjin Beer Festival is best described by its Green, Comfortable, Healthy concepts. The mascot of the festival is a sea horse called Mr. Ham, he has larges eyes, wearing a tie and holding an over-sized beer mug. The decision of choosing Mr. Ham is based on the fact that city of Tianjin looks like a sea horse with its head high on the map. Up till this year, the cute and funny Mr. Ham has been doing an exceptional job to differentiate Tianjin Beer Festival from its counterparts.

Summer Music Festival in Tianjin

Summer Music Festival Gateway to Music in Tianjin, organized by Tianjin Concert Hall and Beijing Qudong Media Co., Ltd., starts in June or July every year. The event is produced by Beijing Qudong Media Co., Ltd. and is the most influential and famous national brand of music concert. The festival, with 16 years history, has been introduced to Tianjin since 2007. It will offer around 30-60 performances every year.

Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. The traditional food of this festival is the moon cake, of which there are many different varieties. The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the few most important holidays in the Chinese calendar. Farmers celebrate the end of the summer harvesting season on this date. Traditionally on this day, Chinese family members and friends will gather to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, and eat moon cakes and pomelos under the moon together.
