Makati is one of 17 cities that make up Metropolitan Manila. Step out of Raffles Makati’s elegant lobby and there is a fascinating city waiting to be explored: Intramuros, the ancient walled capital of Manila dating from 1571; Fort Santiago, built in memory of those lost during the Spanish and Japanese periods; Malacañan Palace, the official residence of the country’s president since 1863; and the Ayala Museum, tracing the rich tapestry of Filipino history, whch can be reached on foot.

The Cultural Centre of the Philippines is an immense 150-acre venue, designed by Leandro Locsin, that houses prestigious local and international exhibitions and productions. The National Museum houses some of the Philippines' finest exhibits, representing the country's unique and rich heritage.

A favourite with families, Manila Ocean Park is the Philippines' first marine theme park. Thousands of sea creatures can be viewed from a walk-through tunnel; and the kids will love the penguin park.
