Ranger for a Day

Ranger for a Day at Raffles SeychellesAn exclusive experience available only at Raffles Seychelles, Ranger for a Day is a full-day excursion which immerses guests into the unique flora and fauna of the Seychelles and offers an unrivalled insight into the local environment.

In the company of a Raffles Ranger, set off for the nearby Curieuse island from the resort’s beachfront, a 10-minute boat ride away, to meet the Seychelles National Parks Authority and learn about the island, their mission and your activities for the day.

Starting with a seasonal activity such as turtle monitoring, juvenile lemon shark tagging or bird nest monitoring, Rangers will then encounter the island's most popular inhabitants - the giant Aldabra tortoises. Learn how to distinguish males from females, estimate age, monitor behavior and participate in a tagging activity. Next up, the adventurous can take part in a coral reef protection project at the Marine Rangers’ Village, preparing traps for propagation, followed by a snorkeling tour to inspect the coral farm and transplantation site.

A traditional Seychellois lunch will refuel the Rangers, before continuing with a transplantation activity at the tree nursery. Aspiring botanists will learn more about the island's flora, including its endemic, native and invasive species, and execute a propagation of endemic plants. Rangers then take a trek to beach Anse Jose, passing wetlands along the way as well as discovering and mapping mangroves.

Finally, the budding rangers will patrol the Curieuse Marine National Park on the official SNPA boat to ensure the marine park waters are respected, all the while enjoying a tour of the island and its original granite formations, such as the Lizard Rock and Turtle Rock.

Upon their return to the resort, newly-qualified Rangers will receive an SNPA-approved certificate, for an official memento of this fantastic experience.
