Compromiso con la sostenibilidad: Experiencias ecológicas en Raffles Seychelles

Palmeras endémicas

Se han vuelto a plantar varias especies de plantas endémicas e indígenas en los terrenos del resort para restaurar la belleza natural del lugar, que había sido arrasado por un incendio hace 11 años. Estos incendios provocaron deforestación, erosión de la tierra y daños en la costa. Desde entonces, nos hemos embarcado en una misión para plantar tantos árboles como sea posible en el lugar, y con la ayuda de TRASS (Terrestrial Restoration Action Society Seychelles), nuestro equipo ha plantado más de 200 plantas endémicas y ha contribuido a la plantación de más de 1.000 manglares.

Rehabilitación de corales

Hemos colaborado con Nature Seychelles para iniciar un proyecto de rehabilitación de corales en la playa del resort. Esto incluyó la construcción de viveros de corales y un sendero para bucear con esnórquel. Los huéspedes también están invitados a realizar actividades de plantación de corales como una oportunidad para formar parte de la restauración. Este proyecto se está expandiendo a alrededor de 200 estructuras de arrecifes artificiales para promover la vida de los arrecifes en la zona. Nuestro equipo en el lugar lleva a cabo evaluaciones y supervisa el progreso de los arrecifes.

Adiós al plástico de un solo uso

En 2019, nuestro resort adoptó una postura para reducir y luego detener el uso de plásticos desechables en la isla. En la actualidad, no hay ningún plástico de un solo uso en las instalaciones y ahora estamos orgullosos de patrocinar el proyecto de limpieza de Aldabra. Cada año, se utilizan más de 50 mil millones de botellas de agua de plástico en todo el mundo, hasta 8.300 millones de pajillas de plástico en las playas del mundo y más de 270.000 toneladas de plástico que flotan en el mar. Nuestros chalets cuentan con comodidades sin plástico y nuestra boutique en el hotel vende artículos hechos de plástico reciclado. Nos apasiona la preservación y la sostenibilidad del medioambiente, y adoptamos una postura ecológica en todas nuestras operaciones, lo que incluye ofrecer formas en las que los huéspedes pueden reducir su huella de carbono durante su estancia y poner fin al uso de pajillas de plástico y otros materiales no biodegradables.

La vida sin botellas

Mediante el proyecto de purificación de agua de Raffles Seychelles se introdujo el embotellado de vidrio en la propiedad y esto ha dado lugar a resultados positivos en cuanto al uso de energía y una disminución importante de los residuos plásticos. La filtración de cinco etapas ha permitido al hotel aprovechar recursos de agua alternativos. El agua proviene de una montaña del lugar y se embotella en el resort, lo que proporciona una solución sostenible para nuestro santuario prístino, para los huéspedes y para las personas que viven en el archipiélago circundante. Hasta la fecha, el plan de embotellado ha impedido el uso de más de 260.000 botellas de plástico, con un peso superior a los 130.000 kg (aprox. 286.600 libras).

De la granja a la mesa

Los pescados y mariscos más frescos que se sirven en nuestros restaurantes siempre se compran a los pescadores locales. El 98% de los pescados (la única excepción es el salmón), así como las frutas y verduras, se obtienen de agricultores locales de manera saludable. La isla tiene un suministro limitado de muchos ingredientes básicos, que tenemos que importar. Sin embargo, promovemos un estilo de vida saludable mediante la obtención de nuestra comida de proveedores locales, siempre que sea posible, y la promoción de productos locales en los numerosos platos orientados al bienestar en nuestros menús de los restaurantes.

Reef Restoration

Snorkelling the vibrant waters off the beach, you'll witness the remarkable coral rehabilitation initiative we've spearheaded in partnership with Nature Seychelles. This included the construction of coral nurseries and a guest snorkelling trail. You can join our staff and the marine experts from the NGO in maintaining the coral nurseries and even participate in planting new coral fragments, playing a vital role in restoring the health of these delicate ecosystems. The project is expanding to more than 200 artificial reef frames in 2024 to promote reef life in the area. Think Outside the Bottle

Water scarcity is a global challenge, and at Raffles Seychelles, we’re committed to sustainable solutions. Our Water Purification Project not only minimizes plastic waste but also preserves the island’s limited resources. By introducing a five-stage filtration system and glass bottling on-site, we’ve reduced our dependency on external water sources and prevented the use of over 260,000 plastic bottles, saving more than 130,000 kg of plastic. Drawing pure mountain water from our own land, this initiative enables us to provide a refreshing, eco-friendly experience for our guests, all while safeguarding Seychelles' pristine natural beauty.
Goodbye Single-use Plastic

In 2019, our resort took a stand to reduce and then stop the use of disposable plastics on the island. Today, there is almost zero single-use plastic on-site. Each year, more than 50 billion plastic water bottles are used across the globe, up to 8.3 billion plastic straws are scattered around the world’s beaches, and there are more than 270,000 tons of plastic floating at sea. In 2022, we proudly sponsored the Aldabra Clean-Up Project in 2022, which collected 25,000 tonnes of plastic on the island’s beaches. Our villas feature plastic-free amenities and you can explore our boutique featuring stylish products made from recycled materials, such as fishing nets and sails.

Reducing Emissions

At Raffles Seychelles, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a priority, and we’ve incorporated renewable solar energy for water heating to significantly reduce our carbon footprint, exemplifying sustainable hospitality. By the end of 2025, we aim to transition fully to renewable energy for all operations, further enhancing our environmental stewardship. Paired with energy-efficient lighting and appliances, these initiatives underscore our dedication to harmonizing luxury with sustainability.
