Our Li Heritage

Hainan's ethnic mix delivers diversity and contrast, arts and crafts, and cultural events unique to the island. Our heritage is strongly influenced by the Li, a unique group of ethnic minorities who have lived on Hainan Island for 1,000 years. They have a devout faith and carry out traditional, mystical rituals. During your stay we would love to introduce you to members of these ancient ethnic tribes and explore their culture. You will discover, for example, the Li brocade – a design incorporating nature's elements including the sun, moon, stars, lightning, water and fire, flora and fauna. It represents generations of Li people, and the wishes they have passed on to the next generations.

The Singing Sands

For many global travellers Clear Water Bay is an unexplored frontier still waiting to be discovered. It has 12 kilometres of some of the most beautiful coastline in Hainan. Our beach is known as the Singing Beach because of the special sound the soft, pure white sand makes when people step on it. There are only three Singing Beaches in the world – in Hawaii, Australia's Gold Coast and Hainan's Clear Water Bay.
