Raffles 1887
Three days to chill in the tropical haven of Sentosa? We’ve got this. Here are your Raffles Butler’s top tips for making the most of your precious time in Singapore…
Day One
Morning
Island tour
To get your bearings now that you’ve arrived on the fragrant tropical island of Sentosa, let us take you on a two-hour driving tour, accompanied by Raffles Sentosa's in-house guide if you wish. Discover the island’s history – its transformation from a historic military outpost to an attractive destination for leisure and pleasure – and its winding trails, abundant flowers, trees and birds. Take a stroll through Sensoryscape, an immersive attraction featuring interactive art, ambient soundscapes and botanical storytelling. The route can be designed according to your preferences, timings and existing knowledge.
Afternoon
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Head to the city to explore the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a particular link to the Raffles name. The idea of a national garden in Singapore began in 1822 when Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore and a keen naturalist, developed the first ‘Botanical and Experimental Garden’ at Fort Canning. In 1859 (after his death), the gardens were moved to their current site at Tanglin and thereafter a series of Kew-trained botanists oversaw them as they blossomed into an important botanical institute and pioneering cultivators of orchids and rubber that benefitted all of Southeast Asia. Today the gardens are managed by the National Parks Board, and continue to carry out important botanical and horticultural work as well as being a lovely place to walk, learn, shop or join a guided tour.
Evening
Cocktails & dinner at Royal China
Back home, after some downtime, join a Raffles Sentosa Sling tasting session, where one of our mixologists will describe how we developed our version of the famous Singapore Sling. Dine at Royal China, our signature restaurant specialising in refined Cantonese cuisine. Here you’ll discover familiar flavours as well as more avant-garde combinations. Sauteed blue shrimp, braised inaniwa noodles with lobster and roasted crispy five-spice pork belly are among the tastiest of dishes on the extensive menu.
DAY TWO
Morning
An Empire Grill breakfast
Take things slowly over breakfast served in the Empire Grill, with a wide array of choices, including Singapore laksa and other local Asian dishes. We champion delicious, fresh, biodiverse ingredients to nourish and energise you for the day ahead. From handcrafted breads, artisanal cold cuts and cheeses, to garden vegetables, thoughtfully sourced fruits and freshly squeezed juices, everything reflects the seasonal abundance of our locality. If you’re an early riser, preferring to exercise first, you’ll find breakfast served in the Empire Grill until 12.00 noon (and Raffles Brunch on the last Sunday of the month) – meaning you can plan your morning just the way you want it.
Afternoon
Gardens by the Bay
Bay Central, Bay East and Bay South are three beautiful, tropical public gardens, developed as part of the ‘greening’ of Singapore over the past 20 years. A showpiece of both horticulture and landscape artistry, the gardens feature rare and diverse species, magical views of the Singapore skyline, waterfront promenades and a programme of educational and cultural events. Among the many delights at this ‘9th World’s Best Attraction’, you’ll discover the stunning flower displays in the Flower Dome, including Tulipmania, Orchid Extravaganza and Blossom Beats.
Evening
Lau Pa Sat – Singapore’s historic hawker centre
As you’re out and about in Singapore, why not end the day at its most famous hawker centre? Housed in a distinctive 1894 Victorian cast-iron structure in the Central Area, this high-quality street food market is a celebration of Singapore’s rich food heritage and multicultural community. Take the Lau Pa Sat Heritage Trail to understand its metamorphosis from a humble wet market to a vibrant hawker haven; enjoy a diverse array of Chinese, Malay, Indian and international food; and dive into the open-air Satay Street (actually Boon Tat Street) that appears nightly and is open until 3am, home to nine satay carts where you can enjoy truly authentic dining on the most delectable grilled skewers, under the stars.
DAY THREE
Morning
Fort Siloso & Skywalk
Singapore’s only coastal fortress preserved since the Second World War, Fort Siloso was built by the British in the 1880s to defend the southern shoreline and harbour from seaborne attack. It is worth a visit for the military museum, original coastal guns, underground fortified tunnels and Surrender Chambers, recreating the moments surrounding Singapore’s fall in February 1942. It is reached via the Fort Siloso Skywalk, a scenic treetop walkway. The trail rises gradually through Sentosa’s secondary rainforest, with the jungle canopy thickening as you climb. At 11 storeys above ground level, the views open across the fort’s hillside and towards the southern coastline, and the atmosphere is still and quiet. You should allow 20 to 30 minutes for the Skywalk, and add another couple of hours for Fort Siloso.
Afternoon
Raffles Sentosa Spa
After an energetic morning, head for our beautiful Raffles Sentosa Spa – an intimate, healing sanctuary infused with island charm. We suggest a two-hour experience that encompasses a 60-minute massage of your choosing and unlimited use of the spa facilities, including the 22-metre lap pool, cascading waterfall pools, indoor vitality pools, steam rooms and the fitness centre. A beautiful, calm way to relax and reset. .
Evening
Private dining or Iyasaka by Hashida
After a long, lazy afternoon at the spa, we think the idea of staying in the resort for dinner might appeal. Treat yourself to the experience of our very special Japanese restaurant, Iyasaka by Hashida, exploring a multitude of inventive creations by Kenjiro ‘Hatch’ Hashida, served in his signature omakase style.
Alternatively, choose your preferred setting within the resort, and our culinary maestros will take care of the rest, from menus of delight in your villa to candlelit tables on the beach.
