Raffles Makati - Philippines

SUSTAINABILITY BY RAFFLES

FORBES TRAVEL GUIDE VERIFIED™ responsible SUSTAINABILITY BADGE

Raffles Makati - Philippines
Forbes Travel Guide VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality

A Legacy Worth Preserving

Recognised by Forbes Travel Guide with the VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality badge, Raffles Makati has built its reputation not only on the grace of its welcome, but on the integrity of every decision made behind it — for guests, for colleagues, for the community, and for the environment.

Responsible hospitality is, at its core, a series of small decisions made consistently over time. At Raffles Makati, those decisions span the rooftop, the kitchen, the dining room, and the neighbourhoods beyond the hotel's address.

It is the first time Raffles Makati has received the VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality badge from Forbes Travel Guide. But the practices it reflects have been in place long before the assessment.

Raffles Makati - Philippines

A Living Property

Raffles Makati tends to its environment in the most literal sense. A working herb garden and rooftop bee sanctuary — grown from three colonies in 2023 to ten today — supply the kitchens directly while supporting urban biodiversity in the heart of Makati. The bees pollinate nearby Acacia and Narra trees, producing a citrus-infused honey that appears on breakfast spreads.

Single-use plastics have been eliminated across the entire guest journey, with bathroom amenities now in refillable dispensers and an in-house water bottling system replacing PET bottles in rooms and restaurants. Since 2023, the hotel has donated over 37,849 kg of recyclable materials to Green Trident, which transforms them into practical products, and has composted nearly 50,000 kg of organic waste in partnership with Integrated Waste Management Philippines.

In 2024, Raffles Makati matched its full energy supply with Renewable Energy Certificates, delivering net-zero carbon energy for the year. A 7% reduction in energy use relative to the 2023 baseline and a 6% reduction in water use relative to the 2024 baseline follow from deliberate, measurable programmes.

People at the Centre

The hotel’s commitment to its people is expressed through action rather than policy language. Colleagues participate in regular wellness activities designed to support physical and mental well-being. Raffles Makati champions diversity and inclusion in visible ways: team members have marched in the annual Pride March, and the hotel marks Women’s Month, Solidarity Week, and World Duo Day with programmes that go beyond acknowledgement.

In 2025, colleagues mobilised for a River Clean-up Drive at the Marikina River and a Coastal Clean-up Drive in Bacoor, Cavite — initiatives that extended the hotel’s sense of responsibility well beyond its address.

Giving Back to Makati and Beyond

Raffles Makati’s engagement with the city and its communities is recurring, not seasonal. In 2025 alone, the hotel donated 1,894 kg of surplus buffet food to the Virlanie Foundation — a partnership that began in 2023 and has deepened each year, extending to hotel amenities, linen, and event sponsorships. Blood donation drives in partnership with Makati Medical Center address a consistent healthcare need in the community. Speranza handmade bags — crafted by persons deprived of liberty — are carried in the hotel, offering livelihood and a path forward to those rebuilding their lives.

Responsible Dining at Spectrum

Sustainability at Raffles Makati reaches the table through choices that are sourced with intention. At Spectrum, every egg comes from cage-free hens — a standard that reflects both animal welfare and the hotel’s broader commitment to responsible sourcing. The seafood is locally and responsibly sourced, supporting Filipino fishing communities and the health of Philippine waters. Coffee is fair-trade certified, considered from the farm it came from, not just the cup it arrives in.

The honey on the breakfast table, raw and served from the comb, travels no further than the rooftop.

Through a partnership with Foodsteps, the carbon emissions of each dish and ingredient on the menu are now measured and tracked — ensuring that the hotel’s culinary decisions are not only flavourful, but accountable.

"At Raffles Makati, sustainability is a defining part of our culture — a guiding conscience that informs every touchpoint of our operations. Through our commitment to our community and the environment, we strive to create a legacy of responsible hospitality that endures for generations."

Raffles Makati - Philippines

At Raffles Makati, responsible hospitality is not a destination we are working toward. It is the way we have chosen to operate — for our guests, our people, our community, and the city we are proud to call home.
