The Drawing Room
Afternoon tea and evening relaxation
A stately British drawing room reimagined, with contemporary furnishings set against historic architectural details, wood panelling, an original fireplace and a grand piano to keep guests entertained. Make a beeline here for Raffles Afternoon Tea, jazz evenings, cocktails, fine wine or a glass of champagne, all overlooking historic Whitehall through four mahogany sash windows – where the smart mounted Household Cavalry guards the official entrance to Buckingham Palace.

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. For cancellations made within 24 hours or in the event of a no-show, a charge of £50 per person for Afternoon Tea and £50 per person for dinner will apply. Our children's menu is available for guests aged 1–12 years old.

Operation Mincemeat Afternoon Tea
The Old War Office building played a significant role in British history and some of the nation’s most important leaders and statesmen have walked these halls. During the Second World War this building was a hub for intelligence activity. Candidate spies for the Special Operations Executive (SOE) were interviewed and briefed in the basement, and key agents involved in Operation Mincemeat worked here. The audacious 1943 deception that helped divert enemy forces from Sicily and alter the course of the war. Elements of the operation were conceived and coordinated here, within the former offices of Naval Intelligence. Operation Mincemeat inspired both a film and an Olivier Award-winning musical comedy. And it has now inspired our Executive Chef Roger Olsson and Pastry Team.

For a delightful variation to occupy half a day, take our private Heritage Tour of the hotel followed by tea. Available on select days throughout the year.

Created especially for little ones, journey through the deep dark wood with our enchanting The Gruffalo Afternoon Tea in The Drawing Room. Inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved stories, young adventurers can discover playful interpretations of afternoon tea favourites, alongside imaginative treats inspired by familiar characters, woodland adventures and the wonderful world of The Gruffalo. Due to the specialised nature of this themed menu, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate vegan, gluten-free or other dietary modifications.
